Awesome! Delicious fresh tuna sashima, melts in your mouth. The rolls were well balanced and the rice texture was good, not too sticky, still grainy, not to dense. The dishes were all presented beautifully. The dumplings were good ditto for the chicken. Be prepared portion is on the smaller side. Lovely decor, it felt we were transported to Tokyo, the time we spend there. Very friendly service.

Beautiful decor and great service. Good value for money. Sushi was well prepared and dumplings were good. Would skip the ramen, not enough flavour and very average noodles.

The Tomo Restaurant is an authentic Japanese restaurant in the heart of Cape Town that you need to experience. As we sat down and started perusing the menu, while taking in the décor (matches what I have seen from Japanese movies and Anime), we received a complimentary Jasmine Tea which I thought was quite a nice touch. Their menu has a large variety of items on it with all of the sushi we tried being very tasty and beautifully presented. For my main I ended up going for the Egg Noodles with prawns, but I should have gone for the beef Ramen (which my wife ordered) that I tasted and really enjoyed. What I really liked was you can order carafe’s of sake which has enough for about 4 sake glasses and calling out “Kanpai” (cheers in Japanese) as you celebrate the great evening. Our waitress was also very friendly and attentive. The only thing I recommend they do better, and maybe it was just that evening we visited, is to have some more traditional Japanese music playing in the background to just add to the entire experience. Overall we had a great time and will definitely be back.

I went here on a recommendation from a friend claiming that it was an authentic Japanese experience. Was this authentic? No. The food was from all over the place. Was the food good? No. The Japanese curry tasted like something out of a Malay kitchen and the Ramen was more black spinach than anything. The salmon in the sushi was slimey. Was the restaurant nice? Absolutely not. We were sat next to a wall that was pealing from the mold. But what truly ruined my experience was the host. I have truly never had a more uncomfortable experience with a human being than I had with this man. We asked him to inform us if there is alcohol in certain dishes which he did, what we did not ask for however is for him to change the order to something we didn’t ask for, which he also did. I get that he was trying to recommend something, but it would actually be a help if what he recommended was actually good. 0/5 will never go back and will never advise anyone to eat there.

Kind staff, good quality dishes… What else? Cozy place, nice deco… The ambiance is relaxed. Place to repeat. Ah! And you can see mr Tomo preparing directly the plates! Great experience

I’ve never had such a bad experience in a restaurant. We waited about 1,5 hours until we got our main course. In that moment our bottle of wine was already gone lolRespectively it took about 20 minutes between the first and second starter. The Miso soup was lukewarm. My girlfriend got her main dish 5 minutes before I got my main dish.My main dish (chicken teriyaki) was such a small portion you can’t imagine it (look at the picture but I already ate one piece of chicken at that time) – but it was very tasty. Moreover the toilet doesn’t smell fresh and the refresher in the toilet (with the sticks) haven’t had changed since…??? Worst of all: no paper to dry your hands, it was empty.I would have given 0 stars but I give the first star to the food which is.. anyhow very delicious and the second star because the waiter was friendly and apologized several times and the manager gave us a discount after complaining about the situation.
